Collecting quality-of-life data via interactive voice response (IVR) is efficient and cost effective. The Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire (Q-LES-Q) and Endicott Work Productivity Scale (EWPS) developed by Jean Endicott, Ph.D., are brief and reliable scales best administered by IVR.

Specifics of the Q-LES-Q

The Q-LES-Q has detected significant differences for drug vs. placebo in the following disorders: major depression, dysthymia, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and HIV men with hypogonadism. Furthermore and most impressively, the Q-LES-Q detected significant differences between drug and placebo responders, demonstrating the importance of this quality-of-life assessment for establishing ultimate efficacy of treatments.

The Q-LES-Q measures quality-of-life in key domains. The short form employs the 14 general activities of the long form, as well as 2 global items. Five-point item scores are aggregated, with higher scores indicative of greater enjoyment or satisfaction in each domain. Scores are also presented as a percentage of the maximum possible score.

Advantages of Gathering Quality-of-Life & Productivity Data via IVR:

  • Easy for subjects to use IVR telephone interviews, including the 23% who are functionally illiterate; available 24/7
  • Compliance can be monitored & sites alerted if follow-up is needed
  • Staff no longer need to administer, score and transmit these scales
  • Data can be gathered from large populations at a reasonable cost
  • Data transcription errors are eliminated
  • Sponsors have immediate access to data

Why Healthcare Technology Systems?

  • We are leaders in IVR systems for clinical trials
  • Our clinicians and researchers provide systems optimized for IVR delivery
  • All data are aggregated in an Oracle relational database from which reports are generated in text, tables and graphs
