UK-based Clinical Technology Organization ClinPhone Group Ltd and Healthcare Technology Systems Inc. (HTS) - the world authority in research, development, and validation of computer-administered clinical rating instruments - have today announced a major new partnership agreement.

ClinPhone - the world leader in telephone and Internet-based Electronic Trial Management solutions - has secured an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual license for the use of HTS' assessments on any device or medium used in Phase I - IV clinical trials funded by pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device companies.

The new agreement is a significant expansion of a previous agreement in which ClinPhone held rights for a number of HTS computer-administered rating scales in Europe. Through this agreement, ClinPhone successfully delivered a number of depression rating instruments in trials using Interactive Voice Response technology to Pharmaceutical clients on a global scale. This extension to the earlier agreement will allow ClinPhone to offer a much broader range of patient scales for diagnosis and severity assessment seamlessly integrated with ClinPhone's existing Electronic Trial Management Solutions.

HTS provides over 40 validated instruments, ranging from the computerized interview versions of the Hamilton Depression and Anxiety Rating Scales (HAMD and HAMA), to the Quality-of-Life-Enjoyment-and-Satisfaction Questionnaire (Q-LES-Q).

Until now, HTS has offered these scales to clients through its own IVR systems. With the new arrangement, all new work will transfer to ClinPhone's platform, which is unrivalled in clinical research. HTS will now focus on research and development activities including new scale development in central nervous systems and other therapeutic areas. HTS will develop new products for ClinPhone's use in Phase I - IV clinical trials.

Commenting for ClinPhone Neil Rotherham said, "ClinPhone is the most experienced provider of IVR solutions for electronic patient reported outcomes data collection, and this agreement represents a natural extension of our existing experience - enabling us not only to deliver a wider range of innovative instruments but also to remain at the forefront of the development and validation of these important tools."

John Greist, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of HTS said, "Computer-administered assessments of patients within clinical trials are now well accepted by clinical trial sponsors and regulatory authorities. This agreement permits pharmaceutical companies to reap the benefits of ClinPhone's global reach, best-in-class technology solutions combined with the information provided directly by the patient. HTS will now expand its focus on research and development of new scales and research methodologies."
